It's never too late

Thursday, September 25th @ 12:49 PMpost viewed 534 times

Have you ever heard someone say, "I'm too old to start over", or "I could never do that", or "I'm too old to start a business"?

This week I had one of my soccer players, a senior in high school, "interview" me for one of his classes.  He wanted to know more about my business, how many hours I worked, what the income potential was like, and what the most important attributes for success were.

I shared with him that one of the most important attributes was the ability to learn and then knowing how to apply that knowledge in action.

Douglascropped.jpgThen I ran across the story of a gentleman by the name of Douglas Goodey.  Now, I don't know Douglas, but he and I share at least one thing in common.  Douglas has had to 'start over' at least once in his life.  So have I.

You see, at the age of 65 Douglas went from the penthouse to the poorhouse and lost everything.  He was also $4.5 million in debt. Fast forward to today... he is 80 years old, has paid back every penny of the $4.5 million, plus he has earned $20 million on top of that.  And he started over at age 65.

He was willing to learn and apply in action the techniques and strategies that we can all learn to be successful.  He didn't say "I'm too old", or "It's too late".  He showed us that none of that matters.  What matters is whether we are willing to pick ourselves up after falling down, learn what we have to learn, apply what we've learned, and have faith that it's all going to be ok.

I know from experience that in the middle of the "storm" remembering these things is easier said than done.  Just like Douglas, I lost everything financially a number of years ago in the dot com bust.  Fortunately the most important things to me ... my family, my faith, my health, and my ability to learn, all remained.

With the current financial "storm" swirling all around us, it's more important than ever to apply these principles.

If you'd like to read more about Douglas' amazing story, and find out about the recent launch of his success strategies CD series, you can check it out here.

What can a wild lion teach us?

Wednesday, September 17th @ 1:02 PMpost viewed 618 times

I recently came across an online video on a friend's Twitter stream that touched my heart.  Perhaps you've seen it.

The story is about two men who purchased a lion cub back in the 60's.  They became great friends with the lion, but the cub got too big to keep, and they ended up releasing him back to the wilds in Africa.

Watch this must-see video for the rest of the story!

So, what can we learn from a lion? He developed an incredible bond with these two guys that transcended the animal kingdom.  "Love knows no limits, and true friendships last a lifetime"

How does this relate to business?  In every way!  If you develop strong relationships based on true friendship and not how much money somebody can put in your bank account ... then your business and your lilfe will know no limits.  It won't happen overnight, but in time I believe you'll be blessed beyond belief.

If you haven't been in touch with someone you care about for awhile ... pick up the phone, send them a card, reconnect via Facebook, stop by and visit ... you'll be happy you did.

Now go out and make a difference.

An attitude of gratitude

Monday, September 8th @ 5:53 PMpost viewed 504 times

Last week I finished up the Summer Success Summit seminar series, and I was thinking about all the things that came together to make it a successful event.  So I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to a few people in an attitude of gratitude.

First of all, thank you to Carrie Wilkerson, the Barefoot Executive, who inspired me to take action in the first place and put on the event.  She continues to inspire and I highly recommend connecting with her.

Next, I want to send a special shout out to all of my wonderful expert speakers who gave of their time, talent, and knowledge during our seminar series.  Not only are they very knowledgeable about their topic of expertise, but I thouroughly enjoyed working with them on a personal level as well.

So, thank you to each of my fantastic speakers;

Jennifer Powers - professional coach, Kyle Sexton - member services and consultant, Ben Fahndrich - business coach, Felicia Slattery - communications consultant, Carrie Wilkerson - the Barefoot Executive, Andrea Waltz and Rich Fenton - Go For No!, Marty Fahncke - Social Networking Expert, Craig Hill - Family Foundations, Int'l, Bo Bennett - entrepreneur, Kim Rowley - affiliate marketing expert, and Jordan Adler - author, "Beach Money"

I'd also like to thank all of you who attended.  You have shared your kind words and feedback with me  ... so I really, really am grateful for all of you who attended and made it all worthwhile.  I truly hope all of you were able to benefit from all the great information and can now take action in your business.

Special thanks go to my mastermind members who helped me fine-tune throughout the event ... Jennifer Powers and Kyle Sexton... you guys are awesome!

Finally, I'd like to thank my wonderful wife Pam who serves as my assistant behind the scenes.  We work as a team in our business ... and I couldn't say enough about all that she does for me.

On a personal note, this Friday marks our 16th wedding anniversary.  I still remember like it was yesterday shouting through the streets of downtown Salem, Oregon saying "she said yes!".  So, thanks honey, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.  Smile

In an attitude of gratitude, who would you like to thank?  I hope you take some time to do it today.

What the heck is a Mindmap and why should I use it?

Tuesday, September 2nd @ 2:55 AMpost viewed 556 times

That's the question that I asked myself when I first heard of Mindmapping.  I mean, c'mon, it sounded like it was straight out of some science fiction novel, when the evil genius mind-maps the hero's brain so he can get all of his secret powers...

But, I kept hearing the term ... so I decided to check it out and find out what it really means.  And boy am I glad I did.

You see, I'm a very visual person, and if you're anything like me, you've got way too many ideas floating around in your head and far too many things to do that won't fit on your standard linear "to-do" list.  That means my productivity suffers sometimes, as I can't quite keep track of it all and easily get distracted.

Now I've been through all of the day-planning seminars over the years to try to get my life organized ... but to be honest I still struggle with staying on task in any organized fashion and yet still capturing all of my ideas into a cohesive action plan.

Enter the mindmap.

The mindmap is basically a piece of software that allows you to organize your thoughts, things that you need to do, and even business systems into a visual format.  You can see an example below;

mindmap.jpg

The cool thing about a mind map is that it is a lot like how I draw things out on a piece of paper.  It's part flowchart, part to-do list, part brainstorming list ... all combined into one powerful piece of software.  The software lets you organize your thoughts, tasks, and more into an amazing "map" that you can change, rearrange, prioritize, color code, and a whole lot more that I'm just learning about.

Now, I'm not an expert by any means of how to use one of these here mindmaps ... but I am learning from a new friend of mine who seems to have a really good handle on things.

His name is Bob Jenkins, aka Bob the Teacher.  Bob and I actually teach some of the same things ... online marketing stuff ... but this is an area that I was, well, totally ignorant about (remember, evil genius, right?)

Now the software itself is free, and Bob has also put together a short training program on how to really maximize the software in our daily lives to stay organized and get more done.

So, number one, grab the free software. And secondly, I'd highly recommend you also pick up a copy of his training program.

You can find out more here at:

DiscoverFreeMind.com

I know it is already making a difference for me, and I hope it will for you too.  So happy "mindmapping"!
